3d printing3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. There are rooms for programming when moving these services online, based on the strength of 3d visualization libraries.

I have chances to work on several online quoting projects for 3D printing, and they bring great experiences. In these projects, an interesting part is converting 3D files to render-able formats for showing on web browsers.

I have used VTK - an open-source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, image processing, and visualization - for doing this task. The library has been doing great work when extracting images from STL models.

One of fun things while working on these projects, is a client of mine has been built a 3D yacht for the film "The Wolf of Wall Street" with performance of Leonardo DiCaprio. I like him from the Titanic, and finally he has got an Oscar in 2016.
